The newest version of the NYC Open Data provides a richer, more dynamic data platform, improving search mechanisms, expanding machine-readable formats, and showcasing existing agency APIs.

NYC Startup APIs

BigApps 3.0 includes an award for the best mashup that uses NYC Open Data in combination with APIs from participating NYC startups. See a list of participating NYC-based companies providing APIs here.

NYC BigApps Ideas

During the summer of 2011, New York City challenged the general public to share ideas for NYC apps. The BigApps Ideas Challenge received more than 600 submissions. You can view the Top 10, Top 25, or all 612 submissions at http://ideas.nycbigapps.com.

In addition to the cash prizes, BigApps 3.0 entrants will have the opportunity to participate in several programs that help startups:

  • TechStars will select at least two BigApps 3.0 entrants to be TechStars Finalists and participate in the final round of its highly selective startup acceleration program.
  • Winners will be eligible to join the BigApps Founders Network, which provides BigApps winners with mentorship, networking, and business support services to help them launch or build their startups.

Details will be provided throughout the challenge.
